The autumn season is upon us and it is synonymous with the act of shedding the old in anticipation of the new. The shorter days and longer nights seem to suggest that the time to take a recess from our toil is at hand. The leaves on the trees are falling and the grass is letting go of its verdant shade to make room for a more appropriate one.
If nature hearkens to this call, it will be unwise for us to ignore it. This promise of newness has been our inspiration while compiling this newsletter; we hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you. Have fun.

If any of these are YOUR resort, you’re in for a treat…
Crystal Springs
If you are a nature lover, be sure to pack your hiking shoes!
There are five hiking trails on the 2400 hectare property to choose from at Crystal Springs. To make the best of the hiking journey, we suggest you download the mammal list and the bird list to tick off all the resident creatures you spot on your hike. And because you come home to relax, why not come back from your hike to be pampered at the spa? You deserve it. After all the activities of the day, just pop-in at reception to pick up a board game for guaranteed fun for the entire family in the evening.
Birds Giraffe
Ngwenya Lodge is a resort that caters for all seasons, whether you are going home in autumn, winter, spring or summer, there is always plenty to do. The 18-hole mini-golf course will appeal to your fun-loving, competitive nature but we won’t promise that your ego will not be bruised after you lose to your niece. When you come home to Ngwenya Lodge, you have to prepare yourself to make new friends from afar; four-legged friends that are always eager to come out and play in the spotlight for your enjoyment.
Guests have recorded an abundance of game sightings, while enjoying a meal on the Le Fera restaurant deck, with panoramic views out over the Crocodile River. Make sure you add to the list of the sightings at this RCI Gold Crown resort. After venturing into the Kruger via the nearby Crocodile Bridge entrance and having basked in the beauty and been totally refreshed, pull-in at the Resort car wash for a squeaky clean wash before continuing on your merry holiday way, or before making your way back to the city.
Mount Amanzi
Health experts list the following as benefits to fishing: full body strength, family bonding, boosts immune system, promotes relaxation, improves cardiovascular health, teaches self-reliance and bestows patience. We bet you these are amongst the top ten reasons you are coming home to your vacation. The catch-and-release fishing facilities at Mount Amanzi are tailored to meet these desires and leave you revived and refreshed.

Side Note: Fishing tips for the not-so-great
If, however, your fishing skills are not as great as you had envisioned, we have compiled a list of things to remember when you approach the bank. They are:

  • Nothing makes a fish much bigger than almost being caught
  • Education is important but fishing is ‘importanter’
  • There is a thin line between fishing and just standing on the bank looking at the trees
  • If you don’t catch anything, don’t be too offended. They are smart, they swim in schools
  • Lastly, a bad day fishing is better than a bad day at work

Holidays are more than just about getting away from it all and seeing distant lands; they are more than just about one individual seeking peace and quiet. Holidays, because of the busy modern lifestyles we lead, have become uninterrupted family time. The getaways are a time to catch-up as a family and learn once more what makes each family member tick. That is the mindset that Sudwala Lodge subscribes to; the lodge has facilities that are geared to meet the needs of every family member. The Sudwala Fun Card ensures that children have unlimited access to games and all sorts of fun at the resort. The card grants them access to all these for the duration of the vacation; crazy golf, table tennis, Nintendo Wii and Xbox are all part of the fun provided by the Fun Card.

Mini-Golf Tips:
If you are going to be challenging your family members to a game of mini-golf, we have compiled a few helpful tips. Just 6 tips will do for now:
News Ask yourself: Are you ready to deal with the repercussions of loss?
Do understand that if you lose that will go on your record and will remain there for a very, very, very long time. If you are comfortable with that then proceed to the next point.
Weapon Make sure you have the correct weapon
Yes, we said weapon. You have to realise that this game is bigger than you, take it seriously.
Remember who you are playing against. The top of the putter (that stick you use to hit that round white ball) must be waist high, make sure that your grip is firm and rightly positioned.
Battlefield Survey the battlefield thoroughly
Make sure that you know the field. Check slopes and dips. See the ball gliding on the field and anticipate possible threats. Remember that you don’t have to hit a hole-in-one, so plan the dunk in two shots not one. Strategize mentally and see the hole before the game begins.
Target You are the master
The ball is your subject. It will go anywhere you direct it. If you can see it, you can do it – Ok, maybe! But the secret is in choosing a target and then aiming for it. You have to see it in your mind first.
Position It is all in the knees (and the toes, and the back, and the arms...)
Your feet and eyes work as a team. The position of your foot must align with the mental line you drew. If your feet are not aligned, your chances of not making the shot are greatly heightened. Always remember what is at stake here. You are representing! Make sure you win!
Precision Precision, not power!
This is not a game of power but of precision. Too much power on the strokes can cause you to miss easy shots; the goal is to sink the ball. Practice before the game if you can, if you can’t then learn as you go. If you have followed the preceding steps, it won’t be too hard to guide the ball into the hole.
Excuse And a bonus tip
If it looks like things are not going your way, come up with an excuse as to why you didn’t win, before the game ends!

the sauce is delicious so serve it with bread or mashed potatoes to soak up every delicious drop.

Chicken     Ingredients
  Apple 4 slices bacon, chopped
Apple 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 1,5 kg total)
Apple 2 medium tart red apples, cored and cut into wedges
Apple 350 ml bottle hard cider
Apple 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme
Apple 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  Apple 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Apple 350 grams fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved if large (2 cups)
One In a very large frying pan cook bacon over medium heat until crisp; remove from pan, reserving the fat in the frying pan. Add chicken, skin side down, and cook 10 minutes or until browned, turning once; remove from the pan. Add apples to the pan and cook 4 minutes or until browned on both sides; remove from the pan. Drain and dispose of fat from skillet.

Cover and cook 5 minutes. Add apples and cook, uncovered, 3 to 5 minutes more or until chicken is done (at least 80 degrees Celsius).
